It's time again !!!

for the 2010 Purple and Gold Classic!

This has been a tradition at Hueytown's Allison Bonnett Park for over 6 years.... we've had rain, snow, brilliantly sunny days, but have never canceled a tournament.

The facilities are great, the food is great, and best of all is the GREAT softball this tournament has always brought...

Normally we've had this tournament in early March, but because of scheduling conflicts we've had to move it to later in March, but this should actually make the weather a little more predictable!

2009 Finals!

After a great Friday and Saturday of softball, we have our 4 champions and 4 runner ups!

It was beautiful weather in Hueytown and Gardendale and we played some GREAT softball.

The 8Us seemed to enjoy the short field as they hit tons of balls over the fence! The Mustangs put 16 over as they made their way to the Championship.

The 10U Silver, was won by the Frenzy as they overcome the Extreme Shock by the score of 8-3.

In 10U Gold... 1st Seed Bombers and 1st Seed Vipers ran the brackets to the championship game and the Vipers won the championship!

The 12Us fought it out in the championship game as the Ladybugs took on the 1st seed Red Storm. The Ladybugs took the lead, only to loose it in the last inning as the Red Storm tied up the game. Then the Red Storm went on to win the championship after several tries for the plate were stopped by the Lady Bugs defense. Final Score was a tight 2-1.

It was a great day of softball and the Mustangs and Hueytown Softball want to thank everyone who came out to the park on this beautiful weekend!

Have correct change for the gate if possible. There are NO ATMs close by so have money for gates and concessions.

PLEASE HELP KEEP THE PARK CLEAN. The league will be back out on Sunday to have their Team Pictures, we don't want them coming back to a dirty park.

Soggy, then Nast, then Beautiful Weekend

The Hueytown Purple and Gold Classic started out as a Soggy weekend. Of the 5 games that played on Friday, some were blow-outs some were really close. but they all ended soggy.

On Saturday we woke to this...

Yes, that's snow in Alabama, in March. Interstate 59 was closed and we had to cancel games.

We immediately started contacting coaches and found that HALF the original field could return but our park had already scheduled pictures for their league teams on Sunday. So we secured the Gardendale fields and scheduled the 4 remaining 12U teams to Gardendale and the rest of the teams played in Hueytown.

Sunday turned out to be a wonderful day with highs in the 70's. You would have never known that it snowed the day before. In Hueytown we played from 11am with the Championship Game for 10Us starting at 5pm. In Gardendale they started at 2pm and the Championship Game started at 5pm. A Beautiful day for softball!!!

All teams played well and everyone seemed to have a great time! The Mustangs gave away 196 Tournament Tshirts, 6 MVP Awards, and 6 Team Trophies. In Hueytown, for the 10s and 8s, every team won at least one game and no team went undefeated! Thats good competition among the teams!

For all of you that came back for Sunday Play, we appreciate the support! Thank you very much! The Concession Stand for the tournament was manned by the Hueytown Fastpitch Softball Park and the money from it went to Support NSA League Play. The Park really thanks you for the support that you showed the park.

I have to commend the spectators of the event. I heard almost no negative remarks during the tournament and while walking around cleaning during and after the event, I noticed that all of the teams really cleaned up after there selves. Thank you for that...

I hope all teams and organizations will return to Hueytown next year where we hope to play the Purple and Gold Classic Again!!

We had a great night of softball. It drizzled on us late in the evening, but otherwise it was a lost of fun with relatively Mild temperatures for all the snow we were to get.....

I will be at the fields at 7:30 in the morning and will try to make a decision around 8:30. I'll start calling after 8:30.

I've added a score board to the site. At least 5 days before the tournament the games will appear.

I'll update them from the park with the scores. I cannot update them "real time" because I can't be at all games, but if you are a grandparent or a parent that has to work, the scores will be here after the game.

There are links to directions to the park, I'll be adding soon links to nearby hotels.

Gate will be $7 per person 11U Free per NSA. For those that are playing on Friday, please keep your ticket that you get at the gate. The tickets will be honored on Saturday as well. You MUST keep your ticket to get in on Saturday or pay again.

The concession stand will be available and all proceeds go to Hueytown Fastpitch Softball. A community NSA League organization.

A hospitality suite will be available for coaches and umpires above the concession stand.

Electronic Scorepads will be provided. Home team is responsible for keeping the score to their book. Home team book is the official book.

All teams that were registered by the 15th will receive tshirts for entering the tournament. These will be available at the tshirt vendor booth to the coaches only.

The Tshirt vendor will be available as well as Sports Action Photography. Please bring Cash or Checks for these vendors as I do not think they will accept credit cards.

We have 3 batting cages available for 10s and 12s. 2 cages available for 8U. There are 4 practice fields available to warm up but they are across the parking lot from the fields. You will be able to see these on the right after you drive in.

The fields will be lined off each day before play. They will be lined off before bracket play and they will be lined off before Championship games. Please be patient while we get the fields ready for play.

We have plenty of field dry. Please show up for games or call 205-612-3082 in case of rain. We will be making every attempt to play.

Thank you to those that have entered our tournament.

Just a reminder that we need at least 1/2 registration as a deposit and your players shirt sizes by 2/15 in order to qualify for the free tshirts. I'll need to get out tshirts ordered so we'll have them on Saturday for your girls.

We need 1 more 8U and 1 more 12U team to fill the tournament after that we'll have to play 10U on Friday too. Not a problem, but any 10Us entering at this point should realize they will have to play on Friday as well.

The 2008 Hueytown Purple and Gold Classic will once again be at Hueytown's Allison Bonnett Park. This time with a new host team! The Birmingham Mustangs will play the part of host and will have teams in the 10U and 12U age groups. This is a Saturday only tournament, but will expand to Friday if needed.

The Mustangs will provide all teams that participate a FREE tournament Tshirt to all the players. In addition we will have the regular 1st and 2nd Place trophies and special MVP Awards to the top Offensive and Defensive players on the Championship teams.

Allison Bonnett Park is the home of Hueytown Fastpitch Softball and has hosted this spring tournament for 4 years under different names and hosted by different teams. This is the Second Year as the Hueytown Purple and Gold Classic and we hope to leave it as that.

Entry to this tournament is still OPEN. Any team wanting to participate should fill out this form and call Gary Wray at 205-612-3082. Team Insurance and NSA Sanctioning is mandatory for the tournament but proof of both can be shown on tournament day.

The 2007 Hueytown Purple and Gold Classic was held on March 9th & 10th and the Thunderbolts Purple 10U (the hosting team in 2007) put on a great tournament for the 8U, 10U, and 12U teams that participated.

We all had a great time. In the 8U division the Bandits and Red Storm 98 took it to the final game and the Red Storm came out on top.

In the 10U Division, the Host team the Thunderbolts Purple and the Bandits squared off with the Thunderbolts pulling off the victory. This game even had a home run hit by the Bandits on a 200 ft field!

In the 12U Division, the Bandits and the Vipers made a game out of it playing well into the night. In the end, the Vipers made a miraculous comeback to beat the Bandits.

The 2008 tournament is scheduled for March 8th, 2008 and and will be hosted by The Birmingham Mustangs 96.
